Monday 14 June 2010 - Welcome on Gamersband
Here's the first news about Gamersband.com, location-based social media for gamers.
The main idea is to provide, to anyone that just bought a video game, a simple solution to find people with the same game in his area: people from his neighborhood, from the same school, the same workplace... We aim to develop meetings and matches, IRL or online, between players that live nearby. We believe that video games are wonderful social links creators and that it's always more exciting to play with his band!
Gamersband will help you find a FIFA player that lives 2 floors above you, a guitarist for a Rockband party, or a new guildmate open to sometimes share a pizza.
But that's not all, Gamersband will go further.
For almost 10 years, Matthieu has produced video games competitions for the world's best players (google: ESWC). Now through Gamersband, it's strictly the other way around: anyone can become the champion, and fast! Based on the meetings, Gamersband will index reports of local challenges. Anyone will be able to be ranked and become the champion of their city, their school, their neighborhood, and even their street or building!
As it is so much funny to challenge friends rather than strangers, it's more thrilling to target the TOP 4 of his city than to laze TOP 29,000 on Internet.
Whatever your platform is, console – pc – mobile, whatever your game is: socialize, play together and own your area! Here are the two main services of Gamersband: finding gaming partners and managing gaming zones with challenges and tournaments.
We develop around those axes several features to energize the micro-communities: badges awarding, fairplay xp and level gauges, data retrieval from xbox live, psn or steam... We also design Gamersband as a platform usable from any device, starting from Internet, mobiles, embed in Facebook or even in your TV as a widget!
To date, we have scheduled the official public launch at the end of September. As the dev and the UI are already quite advanced, we might be able to open a beta version at the beginning of the summer (depending on the French results during the world cup). Our next news will give you details on the beta access.
Designing Gamersband is really stirring. It combines the new web trends with our experience of gamers. We look forward to sharing the project with you.
Stay connected,
